February marks National Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular health and the small steps we can all take to protect our hearts. At our practice, 2026 is centred around wellness, longevity, and a truly holistic dental approach — and we are proud to be launching an initiative that reflects exactly that.
This month, we are introducing complimentary blood pressure checks in our dental surgeries, offered alongside dental health checks and new patient examinations.
Why Blood Pressure Checks in a Dental Setting?
Oral health and systemic health are closely connected. Research consistently shows links between gum disease and cardiovascular conditions, highlighting the importance of viewing dentistry through a broader health lens. By offering blood pressure screenings, we are:
- Supporting early identification of potential health concerns
- Promoting preventative care and long-term wellbeing
- Reinforcing our commitment to treating patients holistically
High blood pressure often presents no obvious symptoms, which is why it is sometimes referred to as the “silent killer.” A quick, simple check in a familiar environment can make a meaningful difference.
How the Initiative Works
- Blood pressure checks are entirely optional and carried out only with patient consent.
- The check will be offered to all new and recall patients throughout February.
- The dentist will lead the process within the surgery, supporting the wider team as required.
- We will use a standardised patient template to communicate results clearly and consistently.
- Any raised or abnormal readings will be advised for further investigation with the patient’s general medical practitioner (GP). With patient consent, a copy of the result letter can be shared and recorded appropriately.
To ensure confidence and consistency, clinicians are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the process by first carrying out a reading on a member of the team. We currently have two blood pressure machines available, and training or refresher support is available upon request.
A Step Towards Preventative, Holistic Care
This initiative is more than a new protocol — it is part of a wider cultural shift within our practice. By integrating simple health checks into routine dental visits, we are strengthening our role as healthcare professionals who look beyond teeth and gums, recognising the mouth as part of the whole body.
Launching during National Heart Month gives us the perfect opportunity to start conversations about heart health, lifestyle, and prevention in a supportive and professional setting.
We are excited to take this next step in our 2026 wellness journey and thank our team for their continued support in delivering exceptional, patient-centred care.
Together, we are not just caring for smiles — we are supporting healthier lives.
