At our practice, 2026 is centred around&nbsp;<strong>wellness, longevity, and a truly holistic dental approach<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 and we are proud to be launching an initiative that reflects exactly that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This month, we are introducing&nbsp;<strong>complimentary blood pressure checks<\/strong>&nbsp;in our dental surgeries, offered alongside dental health checks and new patient examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why Blood Pressure Checks in a Dental Setting?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oral health and systemic health are closely connected. Research consistently shows links between gum disease and cardiovascular conditions, highlighting the importance of viewing dentistry through a broader health lens. By offering blood pressure screenings, we are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Supporting early identification of potential health concerns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting preventative care and long-term wellbeing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reinforcing our commitment to treating patients holistically<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>High blood pressure often presents&nbsp;<strong>no obvious symptoms<\/strong>, which is why it is sometimes referred to as the \u201csilent killer.\u201d A quick, simple check in a familiar environment can make a meaningful difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How the Initiative Works<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Blood pressure checks are\u00a0<strong>entirely optional<\/strong>\u00a0and carried out\u00a0<strong>only with patient consent<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The check will be offered to\u00a0<strong>all new and recall patients<\/strong>\u00a0throughout February.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The dentist will lead the process within the surgery, supporting the wider team as required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will use a\u00a0<strong>standardised patient template<\/strong>\u00a0to communicate results clearly and consistently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any raised or abnormal readings will be advised for further investigation with the patient\u2019s\u00a0<strong>general medical practitioner (GP)<\/strong>. With patient consent, a copy of the result letter can be shared and recorded appropriately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure confidence and consistency, clinicians are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the process by first carrying out a reading on a member of the team. We currently have two blood pressure machines available, and training or refresher support is available upon request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Step Towards Preventative, Holistic Care<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative is more than a new protocol \u2014 it is part of a wider cultural shift within our practice.
