As an orthodontist, one of the most common questions I hear is: \u201cWhat exactly is Invisalign, and how does it work?\u201d This is a great question, because many people are familiar with traditional braces but less certain about how clear aligners achieve the same results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Is Invisalign?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic system that uses clear, removable aligners instead of metal brackets and wires. Each aligner is custom-made to fit snugly over your teeth and is designed to gently move them into better alignment over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first glance, Invisalign aligners look like slim, clear retainers or whitening trays. But they are far more advanced. They\u2019re made using state-of-the-art technology that maps out the exact movements of your teeth\u2014step by step\u2014until they reach their final position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Does Invisalign Work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process starts with a 3D digital scan of your teeth, which allows us to design your treatment virtually. You\u2019ll be able to see a digital preview of how your smile could look at the end, which is one of the most motivating parts of the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll then receive a series of aligners, each slightly different from the last. You wear each one for about a week, for 20\u201322 hours a day. The only time they come out is for eating, drinking (except water), brushing, and flossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
